It’s not often a 13th-round draft pick is referred to as a “mega-prospect” by the organization’s general manager, but that’s exactly what Brian Cashman called 21-year old Tyler Austin when he was promoted to Double-A Trenton towards the end of last season.

Since being drafted in 2010, Tyler has killed minor league pitching to the tune of .331/.406/.563 and has rocketed up prospect lists everywhere. He’s the best hitter in the Yankees farm system, basically took over our Minor League Player of the Week awards, and is arguably the Bombers’ best prospect overall (with Mason Williams and Gary Sanchez staking their claim as well).

We were so impressed when we interviewed the converted right-fielder back in January 2012 that we had to bring him back for more.

As such, we are delighted to announce that we’ll be talking with Tyler every week, beginning in Spring Training (he was invited to big league camp), to get his thoughts on his development, his experiences, his season, and just living the minor league life.

It’s not often that fans get to personally know a player with a very real possibility of reaching the Bronx, and we’re excited that Tyler will be giving us a weekly narrative on his quest for the big leagues.

So stay tuned, follow Tyler on Twitter, and look for our first sitdown around February 24th.
