Very different reactions on Arod from the club’s two most iconic players:
“I don’t comment on anyone until they speak first. Let him address his situation before I comment on it. Let him speak first and then we’ll talk about that.”
“We have to embrace him. He’s our teammate.

Q: Derek, do you plan on supporting Arod? A: I’LL NEVER TELLLLL!”

If this doesn’t show that Derek is as big a fraud as the man he despises what does? Honestly since he’s been here Derek has treated Alex like shit and to be honest I am sick of it. When Giambi had the same issue, our “captain” defended him. When asked what could he do to help the fans embrace Alex he gave the standard “I can’t tell the fans what to do response.” Really Derek, if you came out and said to the mouth breathing 90′s dynasty clingers get off Alex’s back, this would have had no effect at all? Derek is like the kid who knows mom likes him best so he can do whatever he wants with no consequences. Thank Mariano for showing our “captain” what leadership looks like. To all you assholes clinging to the 90′s GO THE FUCK AWAY

Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer of all time and a true Yankees legend, but that doesn’t mean he’s incapable of bad judgment.
I agree with Derek’s coolness towards A-Rod, if that’s truly his intent with such guarded statements. Look at all the distractions Alex causes that we know about–imagine what goes on behind the scenes that we don’t see. We all have coworkers who we dislike. Maybe Alex is “that guy” in the clubhouse.
Above all, Derek and most of the Yanks just want to win. That’s all there is to being a Yankee, winning the World Series. Alex’s distractions don’t necessarily harm the team’s ability to win, but they sure as hell don’t help.
What I’m trying to say is that A-Rod is like the clown at your office who tries to photocopy his bare ass and breaks the copier because he’s a stupid fat f*ck. Derek has to Xerox his TPS reports, but thanks to Alex, he has to walk ten blocks to Kinkos because the copier’s busted.
The Truth February 5, 2013 10:29
Are Alex’s distractions real or media created? Last year Joe the Binder seemed to go out of his way to say the team’s offensive malaise was not about Alex, then why the fuck was he the only one pinch hit for and subsequently removed from the lineup? Swisher was and had been dreadful his entire Yankee tenure in the postseason, Granderson was killing worms and flies the way he was swinging out of his shoes and the man who replaced Alex, Eric Chavez, went hitless and had two errors in his place to boot.
Sorry everyone on this fucking team wants to win, that includes Alex who at times tries too hard. I am not trying to be an A-Rod apologist, but for once could the “supposed” leader of this team show some type of support to him. Is what Alex has alleged to have done any more embarrasing than our GM fucking anything with a pulse and doing it on the Yankees dime. Where’s the outrage over that? Mariano should be commended for what he has said and done throughout his career, his class and calm demenor was missed and will hard to replace once he is gone. Derek words of advice, grow up because you too will be remebered for not only what you’ve done but what you didn’t do.

Why did Joe pinch hit for Alex in the playoffs? Because he was pathetic after he returned from the DL in September. Over his last 28 games, A-Rod had exactly six extra-base hits. He struck out 32 times in 111 at-bats. He was clearly injured. Meanwhile, Swish and Granderson at least showed some production during healthy seasons.
Alex can try as hard as he likes, but he can’t hit a baseball with a severely damaged hip. Joe saw that his third baseman couldn’t get the ball out of the infield and took his chances with Chavez. That’s not binder-worship–that’s common sense.
The Truth February 5, 2013 11:39
Uh Son I don’t know what Yankee games you have been watching in the postseason over the last few years. Swisher was 0-15 with RISP over the last two playoff runs. Do you not remember him getting benched for Jerry Hairston Jr in 2009. Granderson was even worse. I had no issue with him benching Alex, but you know what Swisher & Granderson should have joined him on the pine. Alex carried the team in the 09 postseason and should have been the ALCS MVP. Swisher or Granderson cannot make the same claim. Sorry Joe needed a scapegoat and found one and if Alex was injured that could explain his pool play what’s Curtis’ and Nick’s excuse?
Bustifarious Jimmelsticks February 5, 2013 11:53
Uh, son, you should google “small sample size.” You’re talking about a handful of ugly postseason ABs for Grandy and Swish versus an entire month of failure for the injured A-Rod.
In your opinion, what would justify benching Alex? A severed leg? It was clear to Joe and his staff that the guy couldn’t get the bat around. Joe couldn’t just bench healthy, productive players because they didn’t have TEH CLUTCH!
The Truth February 5, 2013 12:28
Gee you’re right I mean despite the fact that in three different postseasons for three different teams in a combined 11 series, Swisher batted over .300 twice and has a career postseason BA. 169 I was too quick to judge. Lets see in his Yankee career he over. 300 in one out of seven post season series and 8 RBI’s in 181 PA’s. In 2009 alone Alex had 18 RBI’s that Postseason. He also had an OPS of 1.253 in the 2000 ALCS with Seattle. Stop it. Nick Swisher was awful in the postseason as a Yankee. Since the brain dead fan base appears to judge your career on what you do in October in pinstripes, Swisher is as much to blame for the Yankees elimination as Alex.
Bustifarious Jimmelsticks February 5, 2013 12:43
I don’t get it. You call the fans brain-dead for deciding that postseason stats trump regular season performance, yet you’re using the same logic. Nice job bringing up convenient three-year-old A-Rod stats, by the way. Guess what Alex has done in the postseason since 2009? He’s batted .160 with 6 RBIs in 21 games! Guess how many home runs? ZERO! So why are you suggesting he should play while Swish or Grandy ride the pine?

agreed…I love jeter and all, but he is a douche bag. Great analogy about being the mothers the favorite kid. People are so in love with Jeter that they cant even call him out on his douchebaggery(which is very often..especially in the past 10 years or so). He could kill doplhins and rape babies and people will still make excuses for him and love him.
Bottom line, Derek Jeter is the least likable player on the team personality wise imo.
makemesomefoodho February 5, 2013 10:15
I agree with what the truth posted..not bust whatever
Bustifarious Jimmelsticks February 5, 2013 10:20
I agree with what your mom said when I rolled off of her last night.
makemesomefoodho February 5, 2013 13:16
into necrophelia, huh?
Bustifarious Jimmelsticks February 5, 2013 13:25
It was so weird. I rolled off her, and she’s all like, “I’m sorry, sir, but we don’t accept American Express.” I had to walk for 10 minutes to find an ATM. And it’s hella cold! Just like your mom!
Your Dad February 6, 2013 00:52
It should have been you, foodho.
You couldn't bench everyone February 6, 2013 11:45
Who was going to play if you benched Granderson, Swisher, and A-Rod at the same time.
As I recall the playoff roster construction, options were fairly limited.
Jorge Posada February 5, 2013 10:16
Girardi chased the real captain off the team a few years ago…
Yankee Fan February 5, 2013 13:53
Yeah sounds like Mariano is a juicer himself
why else would he support such behavior?
The Truthier February 5, 2013 21:07
The A-Rod apologizing on this site never ends. He’s one of the best hitters ever to wear the Pinstripes but he’s been nothing but a distraction/offensive black hole the last three postseasons. Jeter is still getting it done at an older age and if this site can’t get behind him and drop the A-Rod support (after being linked to steroids yet again) they’re losing their credibility. It’d be one thing if he were still hitting like he used to, but last time we watched him he was a black hole. Time to move on.
Lex Luger February 9, 2013 15:24
CC, who is regarded as one of the best clubhouse guys in baseball, had this to say:
“I’m going to take Jete’s stance,’’ said Sabathia, “and wait until (A-Rod) comments, and just wait and see what happens.’’

Stop searching for reasons to criticize Jeter and portray A-Rod sympathetically, just because Nomaas was idiotic enough to advocate for letting Jeter walk and replacing him with J.J. Hardy (81 OPS+ in 2012). A-Rod is a legendary hitter, but he’s also a a giant fucking headache with almost nothing left. He’s created another shitty situation for the team, but the real problem for Nomaas is that Jeter isn’t saying “Alex is swell!”
carl boneri February 10, 2013 12:20
I think Alex has become the Lindsay Lohan of baseball. That said, I find no joy in their troubles.
