Despite Hal’s assurances that he will spend what it takes to ensure the Yankees are a championship-caliber team, when we last checked in on the the team’s World Series odds things were looking somewhat dour. On January 26th, the market put the Yankees at 14/1. They had not been anything worse than a top 3 team by WS odds in over a decade, yet here they were tied for 8th. Granderson and Teixera’s injuries are not long term, but they certainly haven’t helped the Yankee’s October prospects. Here is what the field of “contenders” looks like as of March 7th:

The Yankees’ chances of winning the World Series have fallen 27% off from their January level.  Eleven of the 29 other MLB teams have odds that are as good as or better than the Yankees. They are inching towards being a middle of the pack team. And the front office is going to do nothing about it.
