Mark Feinsand of the Daily News (who’s been spitting hot flames lately) just published an interview with now-Minnesota Twin, Phil Hughes. The article is worth the full read, but here’s what Phil said about leaving New York:

“It’s tough, because you never want to go out this way. I feel like I had a lot of good times in New York and a lot of bad times, as well. You’re only going to be remembered by your most recent memory and that obviously wasn’t the way I wanted things to go last season…

“It’s a place that has been all I’ve known since I was drafted at 17 years old so I wish I could re-write the history book. I’m very grateful for everything New York has given me; not only the organization but the city and the fans.”

Nice words from someone many of us watched grow up in the Yankees system. Once again, best of luck, Phil.
