Not surprising at all, but…

In Jonathan Mayo’s Top 100 prospect list for MLB.COM, the Yankees only have two entrants. Ranked at #47 is 21-year old catcher Gary Sanchez and at #75 is 22-year old CF Mason Williams. Both players dropped from last season’s list, when Sanchez was at #36 and Williams was at #41.

A barren farm system is why the Yankees are so heavily-dependent on the free agent market. Yet, somehow the club’s minor league head honchos kept their jobs.

For comparison, the Red Sox had 9 players make the list, including Xander Bogaerts, who ranked 2nd.
