A very counterintuitive question was raised during our Monday night podcast:

Q: From a fan perspective, would it have been better if Arod’s suspension was overturned by arbitrator Frederic Horowitz?

The rationale — During this entire offseason, the Yankees have been carefully toeing the line of the $189 million Hal-Cap™ and Arod’s 162 game suspension now puts them under…although only barely.

If Arod’s suspension was overturned, there would be no way the Yankees could stay under $189 million. At that point, would the front office had just said “There’s nothing we can do now, so let’s just go for it!” — and there would be no questions of Hal’s true priority.

A very interesting thought.
