Vernon Wells on his future with NYY / NJ.COM via SiriusXM:

“Hopefully I’ll get one more year…

“I had so much fun. My family had fun. It’s a truly unique experience.”

He may have had fun, but Vernon Wells was one of the worst players in baseball last season, with a WAR of -0.8. Only Eduardo Nunez was worse on the Yankees at -1.4.

Here’s what we said about both of them in October:

The cost of releasing them is relatively low (Yankees owe Wells $2.4 million for 2014). Freeing up their roster spots would give the Yankees flexibility and an opportunity to replace them with players who aren’t awful.
