After a rough first two innings, including a rude-awakening leadoff HR by Melky Cabrera, Masahiro Tanaka was superb in his first US start. Showing his trademark control, he struck out 8 and walked zero through seven innings of work against the Blue Jays, allowing only two earned runs on six hits. Great opening performance in a 7-3 victory over Toronto.

However, the real star of the game was the Yankees’ other $150 million+ signing. Jacoby Ellsbury showed why he’s been the 10th-most valuable player in MLB over the past 3 seasons, exhibiting the many facets of his all-around game.
