According to Fangraphs' Pitch Values, CC Sabathia had the best changeup among all AL starters in 2009. For every 100 changeups thrown, CC Sabathia was 3.59 runs above average. Sabathia threw his changeup 18.2% of the time. Oddly, his infamous slider, which made up 20.1% of his total pitches, registered only 0.16 runs above average for every 100 thrown. This was the lowest slider effectiveness since this type of data was recorded for Sabathia.
